New Continuing Education Activity Addresses Infections in the Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) Setting

Initiative Launched by Terranova Medica, the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine, ProCE, and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists

Colorado Springs, Colorado. June 4, 2020. Terranova Medica, LLC is pleased to announce the launch of Infections in the Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Setting: Improving Outcomes Through Interdisciplinary Care (infectiousdiseasescme.org), a continuing education initiative in collaboration with the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM); ProCE, Inc.; and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists Educational Center (SIDPECTM). The activity addresses risk factors and patient-tailored therapy for C difficile infection, prevention and management of cytomegalovirus (CMV) and its interrelationship with fungal infections, and treatments for hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia (HABP/VABP) in HCT patients.

Bacterial, viral, and fungal infections are major contributors to mortality in HCT patients. “In our work with the MSGERC we became acutely aware of the need for more global education on the range of pathogens causing infections in the immunocompromised host,” says Lisa Tushla, Founder and President of Terranova Medica. “We are pleased to have worked with the SIDPECTM in developing this initiative to address these infections in a continuing education initiative that draws together expert infectious diseases physicians and pharmacists for an interdisciplinary discussion.”

“Working on the infections in HCT educational initiative was a wonderful experience that allowed for invaluable interdisciplinary discussion,” says Dayna McManus, Senior Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Infectious Diseases at Yale-New Haven Hospital. “SIPDEC’s expanded collaboration allows for a robust educational experience with a vast reach to a variety of disciplines. I know that a range of health care professionals will find the content and discussions as great of an experience as we did creating it.”

Healthcare providers can register for Infections in the Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Setting by visiting infectiousdiseasescme.org. Pharmacists can complete the activity for ACPE credits by visiting proce.com/HCT.
